NVQ Level 2 Practical in Controlling Lifting Operations

Slinger Signaller Level 2 NVQ is a competency-based qualification. The NVQ is used to show that you are working at the correct level in your role as a slinger/signaller. By completing this qualification, you show that you are working at the required level, leading to employment or progression opportunities in your role.

NOTE: You will need approx. 2 years of experience in the role related to this NVQ, and currently be working in a relevant role.

What happens during the Controlling Lifting Operations: Slinger Signaller NVQ?

The NVQ can booked directly by yourself or by your employer booking on your behalf. To enquire about the NVQ, please complete the form on the right.

After you have enrolled, you will be assigned an assessor. The assessor will arrange an induction meeting with you. They will go through how you can build your portfolio of evidence. The induction can be conducted remotely or on-site. To ensure that you are on track, the assessor will follow up with regular review meetings.

The assessor will assess you on-site through a range of methods. Including written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, observations, professional discussion and witness testimonials.

You are required to collect all the relevant evidence for each unit to pass the NVQ. Once you have provided said evidence, the assessor will review the portfolio and provide any feedback. Once you have responded to any feedback, the portfolio will then go to the IQA. The IQA will decide if the qualification is complete or if further evidence is needed.

    • How long does it take to complete the Level 2 Slinger Signaller NVQ?
      How long does it take to complete the Level 2 Slinger Signaller NVQ?

      Typical completion time is 4-6 months, and all learners are supported to complete within a 6-month timeframe, however this depends on how quickly you are able to meet the requirements of the NVQ.

      Our assessors can arrange calls, evidence gathering and assessments around your workload; the NVQ format is very flexible.

    • How do I obtain my CSCS card after completing the NVQ?

      On completion of the NVQ, you are required to apply to CSCS directly for your card and supply them with your NVQ certificate details.

      You will also need to complete the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test before applying for your CSCS card.

    • Are there entry requirements?

      The qualification will assess your competence in your current job role. Therefore, you must be working as a Slinger Signaller to complete the NVQ.  You must also be aged 16 or above to enrol.

      If you are unsure about your suitability to the NVQ, we will review your application and find an alternative if necessary.

    • Is this NVQ accredited?

      This NVQ can be accredited by either GQA or ProQual.

      Both awarding bodies work closely with the construction industry to develop their qualifications so that they suit the learner and are up to date.

    • Is this NVQ CITB Grant claimable?

      Yes, both CITB Skills and Training Fund & Grants can be claimed by CITB registered companies for all NVQs (with the exception of Occupational Health & Safety).

      The CITB Skills and Training Fund is a pot of funding that micro, small  and medium sized construction companies can use to improve the skills of the construction industry.

      You can apply if:

      • you are a CITB-registered employer
      • you have 1-250 directly employed staff on the payroll
      • any previous project paid for by the Skills and Training fund has been signed off as complete.

    • What are my payment plan options?

      We offer interest-free payment plans on all NVQs.

      Options include:

      • 50/50: 50% payable upon booking, 50% payable upon completion.
      • 4 equal payments, over the first 4 months.
