Plant Operations NVQ is a competency-based qualification used to show your competence in a specific type of plant machinery. Various Level 2 qualifications are available, all designed to show that you are skilled enough to conduct your work safely.
In addition, the qualification will give you the knowledge to gain your CPCS or NPORS card and reduce accidents on-site through a proper understanding of your role.
NOTE: You will need approx. 2 years of experience in the role related to this NVQ, and currently be working in a relevant role.
No matter what machine you are operating, the Plant Operations NVQ has the same set of mandatory units. You must show evidence of the below for any pathway that you chose:
Once the enrolment process is complete, 3B will pair you with an assessor.
The assessor will conduct the initial induction. They will work with you to develop your portfolio and map out how you can complete each unit.
Throughout the NVQ, the assessor will continuously review your progress to ensure that you are on track to completion.
The assessor will monitor the learner through various ways, such as written questions, professional discussions, evidence generated from the workplace, observations and witness testimonials. The qualification course structure incorporates a selection of mandatory units.

You will need to complete all the required units of the NVQ by providing sufficient evidence for each one. Once this has been completed, the assessor will review your portfolio and follow up with any required feedback.
Once you have acknowledged the feedback, the IQA will receive the portfolio. The IQA will decide whether the qualification is complete or if any additional evidence is needed.
Once you have completed the qualification, you will receive a certificate. The certificate is a lifetime qualification that does not expire or need to be renewed.
You will also be ready to apply for the Blue Competent Operator Card. The card will confirm that you have the relevant qualifications to work as a Plant Operator.
You will also need to complete an NPORS Accredited Course to obtain the Red Trained Operator Card. NPORS offers a range of courses. Take a look at the course available here.
